hi all
please could you give me as much info as possible, i have been to thailand 3 times now and fancy a change.
we are thinking of going to penang for 12 nights and kuala lumper for 2 nights.
is 12 nights too long in penang??
also what is there to do in penang is there bars and restaurants, anything with music and an atmosphere at night?
just incase we fancy the odd wild drunken night.
i`m a little worried having been to thailand which i love i don`t want to be going somewhere. where there is nothing to do.
any reviews on the golden sands hotel? and whats the kids club like?
last of all in kuala lumper can you still get your fakes etc like in thailand.
look forward to all your replys, any info much appreciated.

ladyjet, i have not been to Penang in years, so my information is not updated.
Although i dont think much has changed from conversations with friends in Penang, dont take everything as updated information.
12 nights in Penang is about right, although a bit too long for some, unless you spend a lot of time lazying by the pool reading or just getting a tan, then it's ok.
Golden Sands Resort is on the beach. It's a family hotel, kinda old and dated. You can check out the Park Royal Feringghi also.
Seaview rooms at Golden Sands are small.
Nightlife from Golden Sands is kinda limited, you have to travel to town, and that can take about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. The area is call SS, where all the clubs and pubs are. A favoutite English pub is called SOHO. Cab drivers should know the place.
Lots of info here, http://www.penang.ws/
Cheers.

From the Shangrila Golden Sands Resort website, the seaview room still looks the same when i stayed there few years ago and the same restaurants.
Outside of Golden Sands is the night market and some restaurants and pubs.
As for tours in Penang, just arrange with the concierge, they know best.

For fakes in Kuala Lumpur, go to Petaling Street/Chinatown. Go in the evening or at night, more things open at night. Cheers.

If you plan to stay long in Penang, then you should stay at the beach area. If you have kids, then the Park Royal, http://www.parkroyalhotels.com/hotels/malaysia/penang/parkroyal/index.html
They are newer than the Golden Sands Resort.
SS is in Penang Town, it's a short drive from the Beach Area.
There are many shopping complexes in town also, the famous one is Gurney Plaza. Lots of hawkers also there. It's at Gurney Drive. You will drive pass it when heading towards to the beach.

Cheers.

I have tried almost every beach resorts in Penang. Both Bayview Beach Resort and Parkyoral Hotel are great. If you can afford to pay more then try Raya Sayang Hotel. There is also plenty of restaurants nearby Parkyoral and Raya Sayang areas. Have fun !!
