Hi all, I'm new to this forum and due to fly to bangkok with my family this coming august. But after booking the air tickets months ago, now there's whole lots of streets protest and demonstrations happening in bangkok. Would it still be safe for us to travel to bangkok? And what are the chances of curfew happening and all of us will have to stay in the hotel for the whole trip? Please advice...thanks a lot.

I was in Bangkok last week and can tell you it is safe as normal. Yes there are large demonstrations going in regards to the current government but they do not appear to be voilent and are no risk to tourists. Everything is going on a usual in Bangkok markets, businesses, shops you name it. The demonstrations are not really in the main tourist area so you could spend most of your trip in Bangkok not even knowing they are on.

I was in Bangkok during the military coup and didn't feel unsafe or threatened at all. I don't think you will be in any more danger over there than here!
Have a good trip!

Hi Imajay!
Glad you asked \:\)
Going in the mid year is tricky coz it may rain a bit more, so on my first day there, it rained!!! but the rest of the days were sunny all the day.. This recent trip there our purpose was for SHOPPING!! and for shopping only coz i have been there for sigth seeing twice. So i think its enough of that :P

I think the best time to go Bangkok is in the end of the year like December or may be January.. Suprisingly its cooler.. no kidding, its actually cooler (no rain but the weather is just more cooling).

Places must go? Wat Arun, The Grand Palace (must wear long pants or skirt if not they will provide),Floating Market, Nasional Museum, Jim Thompson's Museum, Vinamek Museum.. (the last 2 museum so so only but nice also if you like the calm and slow study of Thai's culture)

As for shopping!!! Jatujak Weekend market, MBK Shopping complex, pratunam Clothing/Fashion Area/ (these are for cheaper stuffs)then Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery is for higher class products.. \:\)

At night! you can visit Suan Lum night market or Patong Night market!! At Suan Lum you can try the massages \:\) i went to anyone i find near by my hotel though.. as its ez for me to just go home and sleep after the massage ahahahaa..

If you dare.. do try their road side food :P i know you may have heard a lot of bad stuff about the cleaniness, but we are ok and no problems with the food there... it's a bit crowded and uncomfortable though but a very good experience :P

Hope this helps \:\) and hope you enjoy your trip too... ahahaha..

Just arrived from BKK
Did not feel unsafe at all. Everything was perfect. Great Shopping. Dont forget to visit chatuchak market at weekend and these days there is clearance on CENTRAL CHIDLOM on the third floor with many original brands on half price and more.
For those wondering if Suan Lum night bazaar is still working, I am glad I found everything there though some shops were closed but I believe those left are more than enough.
Hope this helps

It's probably a sad reflection on my country, but the fact is that I feel a lot safer walking the streets of Bangkok than I do in my own home town in the UK - and we are supposed to be in one of the civilised parts of the world!
