Hi, I'm staying in Patong Beach in July and would like to visit Ko Phi Phi for a day or two. I've read that boats depart from Phuket, but am wondering - how long does it take to get to Phuket from Patong, and what is the best (fastest) way to do it, and how much might this cost? Planning on catching one of the 8.30 boats to get there early. Furthermore, where exactly in Phuket do we head? I can't seem to find any names of piers... :S

cheers \:\)

Hey there,

It is about 30-40 minutes by taxi to get from Patong to the Ferry. We actually hired a car from the dive shop next to our guest house. It was around THB500 I believe that the Ferry went out from Chalong on the Eastern Coast. Just ask the people at your hotel for the neame of the Pier.

You can hire a driver to take you to the ferry and organise for him to pick you up later. There are also many tours that go to Phi Phi daily, these include transfers to Chalong, lunch and a tour of about 3 islands on the way. Just depends what you want to do. Have a look at CathyP travel pages for lots of info including "drivers" shopping lists, places, to eat things to see and do.

Thanks guys. I'm looking at doing one of the many day tours to ko phi phi leh when I get there, then spending overnight somewhere on Long Beach, and just relaxing there the next day before heading back to Patong. The driver idea sounds the most suitable.

Cheers

Cheapest and easiest option: simply book a combination ticket to the ferry with transport included.

In July you should also find some very cheap offers for a short overnight trip to Phi Phi including hotel and transportation. Worth looking into.

Hi, I’d get a tour operator to organise but here is the ferry schedule in case you’re interested.

Enjoy

Cool, thanks. Someone mentioned something to me today about being able to catch a speed boat from Phuket to Phi Phi (to save on time), is that right? But surely that wouldn't be much fun on the rougher july seas...?

Oh, and with the ferry schedule I noticed it has a booking option - in the event that I don't end up organizing everything with a tour operator and just show up at Chalong Pier or wherever it is in Phuket I can still just buy a ferry ticket there and then on the spot, right?

You are correct if the seas are rough a speed boat is NOT fun!!!!
It would just depend upon the conditions at the time.
