Hi all, i'm new to this site and i have just booked my flight earlier today with a mate to Thailand for December 08. This is my first time travelling without my parents and i want to make sure i'm 100% confident with my accommodation bookings being my first time.
My brother and several of his mates going a few times to thailand have HIGHLY recommended the Patong Merlin Hotel along with many reviews on the internet. However i've also read many negative comments about this hotel (terrible customer service, rooms are of poor quality etc.).
It would be GREATLY appreciated if i could get an honest/unbiased answer about this hotel, thanks.

Hey mcgregorja, I'm going to Phuket in June and I'll be staying at the Patong Merlin. It was recommended to me by a friend and by the travel agent I booked through.
The friend said it was really good, clean, could not fault the service and was in a good location in Patong Beach. The one thing he did say to me was get a Pool view room so you can get a balcony - which I've done. Will let you know what it's like when I get back on the 28th June.

Thanks guys i appreciate that a lot.... around x-mas time i am always staying in hotels in Australia (Gold Coast) and am used to it being high season and extremely busy so i have learnt to cope with the service being a bit behind and im not too phased.
Also, other people seem to think that patong merlin is so far from bangla road and the other main streets of patong? I'm a young, fit person and don't mind walking but is it really as far to walk to bangla road as people make it out to be?
thanks

Hi, I stay at Holiday Inns Busakorn wing but would like to comment on the distance to Bangla Rd as both hotels are basically next to each other. I dont find the distance a problem. Some times we walk and sometimes we grab a Tuk Tuk. You are right in the thick of all the shops, restaurants etc. that you will be pleasantly surprised of all that is around you.
P.S I am not so young or fit. LOL

Hey mcgregorja
We have stayed at Patong Merlin twice and it is a excellant hotel and would definetly stay there again.
We always found the staff to be very good and friendly and the food is great.
A wonderful hotel

Hi , my wife & I will be making our 8th visit to the Patong Merlin in August and it is a wonderfull hotel. You must have a pool view room and would recommend building's 4, 5, or 6 at the top pool near reception.
The walk to Bangla rd is only 15 min's and you can walk along the beach if you like tho wouldent do it at night.
Nearly all the rooms have been renovated, not sure about building 4 { my favourite } wasent done 2 years ago but might be now.
Have a great time....Ronnie.

Building 4 will be under renovations during June to August. Just had an email telling us so. Part of pool 3 may also be out of use. Pam
