Hi, having had enough of Kata in Phuket, we would love to try Lagkawi. Having never been before, can you recommend a very nice hotel on or close to a stunning beach in a not so loud area with easy access to local bars and restaurants please.
something abit like kata noi in phuket.
many thanks
oh ps, is the weather similar to phuket? ie best times around dec to april?

Most of the nice hotels with lovely beaches are far from the town of kuah and its very quiet there ( u have restaurants at the hotel and bars though)
The area of Pantai Chenang is somehow more alive and you can find restaurants bars etc close to the hotels but im not sure if the beach there is the best.
We usually stay at the berjaya resort which is in a quiet area, but the beach is nice there, there is an area not far from it called harbor park, by the deck where the boats are, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants there. The hotel is also close to the oriental village, and the seven wells.
As for the weather its hot and humid in langkawi most of the year.

Have stopped at Kata noi Langkawi is much quieter than Kata When we stopped in Langkawi it was at the Holiday Villas. There was a good variety of resturuants within walking distance of the resort. Right across the road there is a resturuant which serves a great breakfast much cheaper than the resort. We enjoyed our stay here even though it was very quiet. It was in 2001 when we stopped there so things could have changed on the up side Lagkawi is a duty free island.Hope this helps.

I last stayed at the Lankawi Village Resort (Now the Frangapani), located in Pantai Tengah on 10 acres. It was a 3 star and nice and quiet. It is located right on the beach and you are in bungalows. Breakfast was included and it was an absolutley stunning place and nice and private. We hired a car and drove everywhere. I have been to Langkawi 3 times and just love it because it is not overly crowded and there is so much to do and it is just beautiful. It is walking distance to a number of restaurants & bars.

Hi,
The Andaman is a wonderful hotel.
We did not stay at the hotel but visited The Andaman while visiting North of Langkawi.
The 5 stars hotel is located close to The Dataï.
Both hotels have private beach and access to the golf.
The Andaman is very quiet and his architecture is so nice.
If you have enough money to stay there, please go !
Have a nice stay in Langkawi !

I have stayed at both the Sheraton and the Westin. The Westin certainly gets my vote.
